Our discussion here deals with the use of a
discrete version of the generalized baker transform to realize permutations in a cipher
system. The specific chosen "distribution" constitutes there a component of the
cipher key. The symmetric cipher system which can be constructed in this way compare with
wellknown cipher systems as such implemented by the ENIGMA machine of WW II or with the
Data Encryption Standard (DES) algorithm which is in common use until today.
